5 Kitchen Design Trends For Spring 2021
Spring is here, finally! It’s exciting to think of bluebonnets and other flowers blooming, buds coming out on the trees, and the freshness of a sunny spring morning. Along with the new life coming out as you look out the window, it’s time to breathe new life into your kitchen, especially after the long winter we’ve been through.

What’s Trending in 2021?
Let’s take a look at what you’ll be seeing in kitchen design this year:
- Wood. Wood is now enjoying a revival. Modern wood cabinets feature natural finishes, adding dimension and organic texture. Walnut and white oak are especially in demand. When wood is used in a contemporary kitchen, it adds warmth that can often be missing with other materials.
- Handle-free technology. Technological advances in hardware for automatic door operation, as well as designs like Gola Profile that don’t require handles to function, can achieve a more minimalistic look. Options such as Gola, touch-open hardware, and automatic servo-drives mean you no longer need hardware in your kitchen if you prefer.
- Black-ish hues. Dark cabinetry is having a moment and is a bold and sophisticated selection. Black/off-black has become approachable and inviting, yet luxurious. Mix it with textured wood to warm up your kitchen and make it cozier.
- Combination of open/closed upper. If you are thinking about open shelving in your kitchen, consider a combination of open shelves and cabinets for the optimum in balancing form vs function. Other benefits in keeping a few cabinets include maximizing your storage with open shelving to display and stage attractive items.
- Mixed materials. Combining tactile materials in the kitchen can often be the answer to bringing contrasts and complements that elevate the space, as the sum will be greater than each individual part.
